After counting the ballots from New York City foodies, the Single Best Lunch in NYC has been decided. And the winner is… Oxido! Already recognized for their mouthwatering dishes in the New York Post and with a 4 star rating on Yelp, Oxido can now add Single Best Lunch in New York City 2016 to their list of achievements.

Oxido Chef, Jesse Perez, grew up in San Antonio, Texas and brought his Tex-Mex inspired cooking to New York City in 2015. Oxido provides artisanal and fresh offerings including Chicken Poblano and Chili Lime Carnitas for fillings in burritos, bowls and salads. We recently shared the exciting news with Owner, Daihwan Choi, and found the secret sauce to what is making this Mexican eatery thrive.

Why do you think Fooda consumers voted Oxido The Single Best Lunch in NYC?

We’ve always had one goal in mind that we wanted to create entrees that were familiar, but had a different flare. Our food is chef driven and all made from scratch. It took us over a year to finalize the creation of our dishes. Now, our proteins (all of which have no antibiotics or hormones) really stand alone and are what make every dish so flavorful and unique.

What is the inspiration behind the menu at Oxido?

Chef Jesse is a Mexican American and is the sole driver behind our menu. He wanted to bring complexity and layers to our food offering authenticity with a modern twist. We use different spices that are directly imported from Texas which are used in our salsas and provide mouthwatering flavor to both bowls and burritos. Our salsas translate well with all dishes and we even provide a pairing guide for our guests.

What are some food trends you are seeing in NYC?

We’ve found that foodies are wanting fresh dishes that can be customizable every time. That’s what’s so great about Oxido. We are always looking for fresh new ways to change up our menu, while consistently offering great proteins, toppings and sauces that our guests can choose how to incorporate. It’s always fun for our guests to use the El Hefe Sauce Pairing guide which makes their regular dish more exciting every time.

What are your future plans for Oxido?

We definitely hope to expand throughout NYC in 2017. While we’d like to continue expanding in NYC first, we are open to expanding to different markets eventually. Also, this winter and spring we will be offering new menu items. Stay tuned as we plan to roll these new dishes out in the upcoming months!
